Halloween might be spooky season for some… but around here, it’s sparkle season.

Instead of cobwebs and cauldrons, we went full fairytale—because who says you can’t trade tricks for tiaras? This year’s session with Alley brought Princess Aurora energy, a pile of shiny pink pumpkins, and a whole lot of laughter to a quiet lake park in Broomfield, Colorado. Towering trees, golden light, and that “deep in the woods” vibe (without ever leaving the city limits) made it feel like we’d stepped into a storybook.

Once Upon a Pink Pumpkin Patch

Alley’s pink pumpkin wasn’t just a prop—it was a character in its own right. Between the soft shimmer of pastel pumpkin and the glow of the fall leaves, this session was giving major “once upon a sparkle” energy.

Instead of posing by still waters of McKay Lake, we ventured along a babbling brook, balancing on a rustic log bridge tucked in the wood. I may or may not have nearly taken an unintended plunge into the steamy stream trying to get the perfect angle—but hey, what’s an adventure without a little risk?

We laughed through the wobbles and the splashes, letting the natural elements guide our poses. The log bridge became a stage, the pumpkin a playful supporting cast, and Alley—twirling, laughing, and full of energy—was the star of this storybook scene.

As a Denver cosplay photographer, moments like this remind me why I love creative portraits so much: the combination of character, environment, and a little physical comedy makes every photo authentic and unforgettable.

The Fairytale Finale

As the sun dipped lower, Alley perched on the log bridge with her pastel pumpkins one last time. Golden light filtered through the trees, dusting her hair and the pumpkins with warmth. The soft babble of the brook below added a whimsical soundtrack, and it felt like the perfect fairytale ending—chaotic, magical, and very much alive.

This shoot was all about finding the treat in Halloween—no tricks required. A little imagination, a dash of sparkle, and a whole lot of fun gave us magic without a midnight curfew.

Why I Love Creative Portraits in Colorado

Whether it’s cosplay, fairytales, or playful thematic shoots like this one, creative portraits let your personality shine. The best part? Locations like this tucked-away Broomfield lake and brook park give you a cinematic, magical backdrop without leaving the city limits.

It’s a reminder that adventure and storytelling don’t need to happen miles from home—sometimes, the perfect setting is just around the corner, waiting for you to bring your character, a few pumpkins, and a willingness to almost tumble into a brook for the perfect shot.
